MALHAVOC Is Back
March 23, 2007Long dormant, the world’s first industrial-metal band is crawling out from beneath the ruins of contemporary alternative music to deliver a crushing proclamation of defiance to the masses! All-new sound, all-new band, and a fresh thirst to devastate all perceptions: MALHAVOC has returned.
Formed in 1985, MALHAVOC would grow to be one of the most notorious acts in the rising genre of industrial. Along with such legendary bands as SACRIFICE and VOIVOD, MALHAVOC helped carve out Canada’s place in metal history.
Of particular interest to fans will be the new band lineup, including the addition of a new vocalist. Vancouver-based industrial band SEVENTH IMAGE has risen to the challenge of assisting Cavaluzzo in forging this new vision. The current lineup of MALHAVOC is:
James Cavaluzzo – Vocals, synths, guitars
Keith Durocher – Lead vocals
Russell Manten – Rhythm guitar, synths, sequencing
Bryan Somerville – Lead/Rhythm guitar
Andrew Amy – Synths, sequencing
On the decision to bring in a new frontman, Cavaluzzo had this to say: "I have wanted to re-examine our older material for some time. The evolution of technology has opened all new paths of expression for aggressive, heavy music. Keith's vocal method is well-suited to the downtuned low-end of the new approach. Plus, this frees me up on stage to do a much wider variety of things live."
Does this mean the dynamic force behind MALHAVOC has hung up his microphone for good? "Not in the least," says Cavaluzzo. "I'll still be singing on any song I feel like adding to. Expect a dual-shriek approach for many of the old-school classics when we're playing live."
Current plans for this new incarnation of MALHAVOC include a new yet-to-be-named album of re-recorded material from the "Release", "Punishments", and "Premeditated Murder". Production duties are once again being handled by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie (SKINNY PUPPY, NINE INCH NAILS, JAKALOPE),and label negotiations are in progress.
For a sampling of what the new material will sound like, check the band's MySpace page, where a new version of "Release" has been posted. Live shows are being booked now, starting with a show in Vancouver, B.C. at the legendary Cobalt on Saturday, June 9.
